March 25, 2025Third Vice-President Dominique DEMOCRITE LOUISY, in charge of Education, met with a group of teacher and parent representatives on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, to discuss their concerns. The Collectivité supports the protest movement against the cuts in teaching positions in Saint-Martin.
Third Vice-President Dominique DEMOCRITE LOUISY, and through her the Collectivité de Saint-Martin, express their support for the protest movement against the job cuts in National Education in our region.
Faced with the challenges related to Education and the specific needs of our youth, the Collectivité expresses its concern at seeing teaching posts eliminated and supports the teachers' request to see a genuine dialogue established in order to take stock and thoroughly evaluate the quality of teaching in Saint-Martin.
As Mrs. Démocrite Louisy points out: " It is urgent to act for the benefit of the children of Saint-Martin. To have an acceptable number of children per class and decent learning conditions for our students. We have long asked that our linguistic specificities be taken into account and that our young people can benefit from bilingual French/English education up to the 9th grade ."
The Collectivité therefore requests a review of the announced decisions and calls for the opening of a constructive dialogue with the State and National Education services. The Collectivité of Saint-Martin reiterates its commitment to quality education, respecting local linguistic specificities and accessible to all children of Saint-Martin.
