Extension of the campaign to identify graves in the public cemeteries of Saint-Martin

April 02, 2025

The Saint-Martin Collectivité informs the public that the Funeral Service is extending its campaign to identify graves in the various public cemeteries. This campaign will run from April 1st until August 2025.

As part of the restructuring of our cemeteries, a grave identification campaign will be held across the region. It is therefore necessary to inventory and identify graves to better preserve our places of remembrance.

This identification campaign has several objectives:

  • Identify anonymous and abandoned graves
  • Inform and support families in identifying the graves of their deceased
  • Create a database to establish a publicly accessible register, allowing everyone to find information on the deceased and burials.
  • Identify particularly old graves of historical interest and highlight the personalities who rest there.

The identification campaign continues in the various public cemeteries from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (excluding weekends and public holidays).

  • Marigot Cemetery: from April 1 to April 30, 2025
  • Grand-Case Cemetery: from May 5 to May 23, 2025
  • Quartier d’Orléans Cemetery (Saint-Georges): June 2 to 27, 2025

The months of July and August will be dedicated solely to making appointments in all cemeteries .

During visits, residents are asked to bring all documents in their possession allowing the identification of the grave and in particular:

  • A copy of the death certificate and/or burial permit
  • A copy of the identity document of the person who will carry out the identification

All citizens are invited to participate in this process and to contribute to the enhancement of our common heritage.
