Hurricane BERYL's trajectory estimates
July 06, 2018The trajectory estimates of BERYL, hurricane
The trajectory estimates for BERYL, a category 1 hurricane located 1,800km from the Antilles, indicate a passage between Martinique and Guadeloupe from Sunday evening, but it is still difficult to anticipate its trajectory and development. The French weather services are announcing a rainy deterioration and a strengthening of the winds over the northern half of the West Indian arc, without being able to yet specify the intensity of the phenomenon and the final trajectory.
Consequently, the community of Saint-Martin invites the population to be ready and informed. If a rainy phenomenon were to directly affect our islands, the community will open three cyclone shelters, for affected people living in tents or tarpaulins and to allow them to get dry.
The shelters will be as follows:
Clair SAINT-MAXIMIN School in Quartier d'Orléans
Hervé WILLIAMS School in Concordia
Evelyna HALLEY School in Concordia
The community of Saint-Martin also informs that the cleaning of the ravines has started in Quartiers d'Orléans and will continue in the rest of the territory. In the event of heavy rain, the outlets will be open.
In addition, the community has budgeted the sum of €5M for covering the roofs of vulnerable people (elderly people and families with young children, People with Disabilities). A precise list of these people has been drawn up by the Solidarity and Families Center of the Community. Public contracts for the purchase of equipment and roofing have been awarded and the operation has already started. 6 investigators from the community follow the operations on the ground so that these roofs are covered as soon as possible.
The community of Saint-Martin invites the population to keep informed of the evolution of BERYL and to prepare properly.
