Environment: The Collectivité calls on traders, artisans and restaurateurs to improve management of professional waste
March 13, 2025Together, let's sort our waste
The Collectivité de Saint-Martin wishes to remind traders, artisans and restaurateurs that infrastructure is in place for the collection of residual household waste from traders, artisans and restaurateurs, and waste from non-recyclable economic activities.
The Saint-Martin Collectivité invites traders, artisans and restaurateurs to use these collection facilities for better waste management.
Professional waste management
The Collectivité is responsible for the management of household and similar waste (DMA). DMA consists of residual household waste, separately collected household waste (multi-material selective collections), waste from economic activities collected by the public service, bulky waste and green waste from households, and waste collected at recycling centers.
The collection infrastructure installed in the area (household waste bins, voluntary contribution points, bins for bulky items and green waste and the Galisbay recycling center) are specially designed for household needs.
On the other hand, the management of professional waste is the responsibility of companies, provided that this waste cannot be considered household waste in terms of type and quantity.
In addition, professional waste produced in quantities greater than 1 m³ per week must be handled directly by its producers (collection, transport and treatment at the Grandes-Cayes eco-site).
The Galisbay waste disposal center is accessible to small businesses (maximum 1m3 of waste)
The Galisbay recycling center is accessible to small businesses under certain conditions:
- Maximum authorized volume: 1 m³ per week.
- Nature and composition of waste similar to household waste: cardboard, green waste, bulky waste, rubble, chemical waste and electronic waste, in small quantities.
- Galisbay recycling center opening hours: Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Use of voluntary recycling waste collection points by professionals
The voluntary contribution terminals for recyclable household packaging (yellow terminals and green terminals) and the cells intended for bulky items and green waste can be used by professionals provided that
to respect the operating rules and not to deposit excessive volumes there. In which case, professionals must imperatively deposit their bulky waste at the Grandes Cayes ecosite.
In this regard, inspectors from the Collectivité services note that the yellow bins are regularly filled with large folded boxes, which quickly saturates them.
As a reminder, the yellow terminals are intended exclusively for the following light household packaging:
- Cardboard boxes,
- Plastic bottles and flasks,
- Metal packaging
- Paper and newspapers
- Large cardboard boxes (flat cardboard) must be placed in the bulky waste bins or directly at the Galisbay recycling center.
Similarly, the bins intended for bulky items and green waste are too frequently used to deposit inappropriate waste.
- In the bins intended for bulky items, only furniture and cardboard boxes can be placed (no rubble, electrical appliances, chemical products, oils, etc.).
- In the bins intended for green waste, only plant residues may be placed (no plastic bags).
Generally speaking, it is recalled that it is prohibited to deposit waste outside voluntary contribution points.
The public is encouraged to follow these guidelines. The Collectivité is counting on everyone's efforts to ensure organized and efficient waste management, thereby preserving our shared living environment.
We are all involved in cleanliness: let's sort and bring our waste to the designated areas!
