March 24, 2025

The Blue Economy Department of the Collectivité and the CARIF-OTEF of Saint-Martin, in collaboration with the Territorial Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, are launching the first survey on the blue economy sector starting Tuesday, April 1st. All stakeholders will be involved.

This study is fully integrated into the work undertaken by local public policies in terms of maritime policy, which aims to protect biodiversity and marine resources, but also be concerned with the development of these economic activities in a sustainable manner.

This study will provide an objective and rigorous perspective by collecting information on the many sectors of the blue economy, including fishing, shipyard activities, ports, maritime transport and tourist activities, which also contribute to the attractiveness of the region and provide jobs.

In order to better understand the economic and social challenges of this economy for the region, it is important:

  • To identify the sectors and industries present in the territory
  • To identify the actors involved in the different sectors and industries
  • To know the employees who make it up
  • To identify sectors with short and medium term personnel needs
  • To identify issues related to employment or training in these professions.

The information collected may be used to:

  • Enable informed decision-making
  • Implement effective actions to promote the development of the region's blue economy
  • Know the economic weight of the blue economy in Saint-Martin in terms of turnover and GDP
  • Organize the implementation of training for the creation of jobs in the short and medium term
  • Providing solutions to the obstacles to the development of the blue economy

This survey of the region's blue economy stakeholders is anonymous. It is being conducted partly online by sending a questionnaire to professionals starting April 1st. Blue economy stakeholders experiencing difficulty providing information on the platform will be invited to schedule an appointment with ITSEE investigators to collect the information. These interviews will be held from mid-April to the end of May.

The Collectivité de Saint-Martin is counting on the cooperation and contribution of blue economy stakeholders to respond to the questionnaire!
