Condolences from the President: Death of Mr Patrick Gréa

February 19, 2020

“It is with great sadness and much emotion

“It is with great sadness and a lot of emotion that we learned of the death of a great name in Saint-Martin rugby. Mr. Patrick GRÉA, founder of the Archiballs club and Rugby Union, fought to the end against the disease with the courage and self-sacrifice that we know him to be. He left his mark on Saint-Martin with his sporting imprint and his great passion for rugby.

Patrick GREA was fully involved in this team sport, here on our island, and contributed to its influence throughout the Antilles, becoming over the years a reference in Caribbean rugby. He trained several generations of young Saint-Martin residents and passed on to them his unconditional love of the Ovalie. Patrick GREA made Saint-Martin rugby shine beyond our borders, his human qualities and his career, recognized by all, will remain engraved in the hearts of Saint-Martin residents. Those who knew him will remember him as a passionate man, of great value, focused on excellence.

The members of the Territorial Council, my first vice-president Valérie Damaseau, Mr. Jean-Raymond Benjamin in charge of sport and the teams from the Sports Department of the Community, join me in sending our most sincere condolences to his wife, his children, his family and his loved ones. The Community of Saint-Martin and its elected officials publicly recognize his commitment and simply say THANK YOU. We pay tribute to him for his entire career.”
