“It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of our friend to all, Didier Lake. His sudden departure is an emotional shock for those who knew and appreciated him.
He was a recognized personality in Saint-Martin, an early friend for many of us. We were from the same generation, we grew up on this island that we love so much, shared experiences and strong moments over the years. The passion for sport and politics brought us together. I am grateful today to have shared these special moments with a man of values who wanted the good of his island and his community.
Didier was a local child, appreciated for his joyful and dynamic personality and his great kindness. He was a distinguished sportsman, passionate about cycling, he invested in his native island by participating in competitions for the pleasure of sport and sharing.
Didier was also an accomplished entrepreneur, a Saint-Martin figure, he was respected in the profession for his professionalism and his innovative ideas. A member of the construction association for several years, he contributed to discussions on the future of our territory and was mobilized for the development of Saint-Martin. His disappearance is a hard blow, a great loss for our island.
The Community of Saint-Martin is grateful for his journey and the man he was for his territory.
My thoughts are with his close family and friends today. I share their immense pain and send them all my comfort.
On behalf of the elected officials of the Territorial Council of Saint-Martin, in my personal name and that of my family, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Didier. We send them our sincere support and all our compassion to overcome this painful ordeal. ".
