The Collectivité of Saint-Martin, under the aegis of Mrs. Bernadette DAVIS , 2nd vice-president in charge of the Living Environment and Ecological Transition, is launching the annual cleaning campaign, from July 8 to August 31, 2024. The population is invited to participate fully so that the territory is ready for the hurricane season which starts very early and whose forecasts are worrying.
While the Collectivité of Saint-Martin is committed to preserving the environment and biodiversity, the cleanliness of the territory and waste management remain major issues for the future of Saint-Martin. Citizens must change their habits and become more involved in maintaining a clean territory throughout the year and in particular in anticipation of the hurricane season.
The Collectivité has implemented proximity policies to:
- Collection of household waste and bulky items 7 days a week
- Green waste collection 6 days a week (except Sundays).
- The new sorting terminals for glass and plastic waste are being installed to be all operational in September 2024.
- The 3 city sorting bins: the market has been operational since June and now allows collection of this waste every week.
The cleaning campaign from Monday July 8 to Saturday August 31, 2023 aims to allow the population to sort, remove bulky items and secure living spaces, in preparation for the peak of the hurricane season.
- Bulky items can be left at the side of the road every evening from 6 p.m.
- Collection takes place from 8 p.m.
- 14 large dumpsters are available in the neighborhoods for large bulky items
- The Galisbay recycling center is also open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- The Collectivité will also remove old abandoned containers.
- Collection of wrecks (end of life vehicles) on public property: Under certain legal conditions, it is also possible to have your end of life vehicle (ELV) removed from private property, by sending a request to the environment department: office-environment@com-saint-martin.fr for any reports
The cleaning of the gullies is scheduled as part of the cleaning campaign. Public contracts have been awarded and service orders already committed. The curettage work should start in the second half of July.
The population is invited to fully participate in the cleaning actions initiated by the Collectivité.
We must prepare as quickly as possible.
