Emergency work at Ghislaine Rogers school
The Saint-Martin Collectivité has undertaken to implement, as soon as possible, the necessary development work to enable the pupils and staff of the Ghislaine Rogers nursery school in Grand Case to be welcomed in better conditions.
Eight ceiling air mixers
Eight ceiling-mounted air mixers are being installed this week, while two additional modular rooms will be installed at the start of the school year in September. The collectivité is also studying the possibility of urgently installing a modular rest room.
The Ghislaine Rogers nursery school in Grand Case was the subject of a union dispute related to the conditions of reception of students and staff. Mrs. Dominique Démocrite Louisy, 3rd Vice-President in charge of Education and the technicians of her delegation, closely followed the situation and met several times with the union organizations, in order to provide satisfactory solutions compatible with the regulations on public procurement.
On Monday, April 22, a delegation from the Collectivité, led by Ms. Démocrite Louisy and the Director General of Services Albert Holl, went to the site to meet with ATSEMs and unions. On the 10 points of demand, the Collectivité committed to processing the requests within timeframes compatible with public procurement.
Among the demands determining the end of the blockade and consequently the reopening of the school, the union organizations are asking for the installation of eight air mixers and a modular room intended for staff to rest.
The Collectivité has started work by installing ceiling fans in the classrooms, four of which are already in place, the other four will be installed by the end of the week if the work is not slowed down by the strike action which is currently blocking access to the living environment delegation depot.
The installation of the modular rest room requires a longer period of time, however the Collectivité has undertaken to study the possibility of carrying out this installation urgently, before the end of the school year.
The Collectivité has also committed to ordering two additional modular buildings with toilets, intended to expand the school's surface area. Given the rules inherent in public procurement procedures, these modular buildings will be delivered and installed at the start of the school year in September 2024.
The insufficient number of support staff for students with disabilities (AESH) was also raised. This support falls under the responsibility of the Rectorate, so the Vice-President and her team will meet with the Rector of the Academy on Friday, April 26, to explain the needs to her.
In order to allow children to return to school and relieve parents, the Collectivité is urging unions to meet it halfway and stop the blockade of the Ghislaine Rogers school as quickly as possible.
For clarification: the Elie Gibs school in Grand Case reopened its doors on Thursday morning.
As a reminder : Since Hurricane Irma in 2017, emergency work has been carried out in public schools, but some of them require more substantial rehabilitation work. This is the case for schools in Grand Case but also for other educational establishments.
Aware of the situation, the current term of office has committed to carrying out this work as soon as possible. The Collectivité is therefore making it a priority and will schedule work during the summer holidays.
