As part of Child Welfare Assistance (ASE) , the Saint-Martin Collectivité sets up reception systems for minors in situations of danger or vulnerability. These systems are based on the commitment of child welfare workers who play a key role in the protection and development of the children in their care.
The role of child social workers
Child welfare workers , also called foster families, provide a stable and secure living environment for minors entrusted by the ASE. Their mission is to ensure a caring welcome (provide a reassuring family environment adapted to the child's needs), support development (ensure the minor's schooling, health, and personal development) and work with the child welfare service (participate in the development and monitoring of the child's personalized project). Family assistants are trained and monitored by the ASE services to ensure optimal support for the children in their care.
Recruitment of childhood social workers
The Collectivité de Saint-Martin regularly recruits child social workers ready to commit to this essential mission. If you wish to become a foster family:
- Requirements : Be of legal age, available and motivated. Have a living space suitable for one or more children. Be prepared to follow initial and continuing training.
- Steps to follow : Submit an application to the Child Welfare Service. Participate in an assessment of your ability to accommodate minors. Complete the mandatory training before approval.
Sustainable reception and monitoring of minors
ASE offers sustainable reception solutions for children and adolescents who cannot be kept in their family environment:
- Foster care : to provide a stable family environment, adapted to the emotional and educational needs of children.
- Reception in specialized structures : for situations requiring specific support, with professional supervision.
- Support towards independence : for young people at the end of their care, specific systems help them prepare for their social and professional integration.
