A notary by training, Daniel Gibbs was elected territorial councilor of Saint-Martin during the first elections of the Collectivité in 2007.
In 2012, he ran for the legislative elections and was elected first deputy for the single constituency of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin. Then, in 2017, he was elected president of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, a position he held until 2022 before giving way to Louis Mussington.
