Saint-Martin commemorates the Appeal of June 18, 1940
Sunday June 18, 2017, local authorities commemorated the 77th anniversary of the Appeal of June 18, 1940 made by General de Gaulle on the BBC in London. This founding call of the French Resistance against the German Third Reich is today commemorated in all the communes and communities of France.
The Prefect Anne Laubies, the President Daniel Gibbs and the Veterans thus laid a wreath of flowers in tribute to General de Gaulle and those who died for France, in the presence of the flag bearers, the police and gendarmerie forces, and representatives of the Territorial Youth Council of Saint-Martin.
During this commemorative ceremony, the prefect decorated 4 serving police officers in Saint-Martin. Major ABELARD received the Gold Medal for his 30 years of service within the national police, Chief Brigadiers PERRIER and VAN-HOUTTE, as well as Sub-Brigadier LIENAFA, received the Silver Medal for their 20 years of service in the police.
