Saint-Martin mothers in the spotlight!
Like every year, the Community of Saint-Martin celebrated mothers. Thursday, May 26, 2016, the President and her executive invited a ceremony in the deliberations room of the Community, in order to honor distinguished mothers from the six districts of Saint-Martin.
In partnership with neighborhood councils, six mothers were selected from the six corners of the island for their exemplary journey. Thus, Mrs. Suzanne COCKS, from district no. 1, Mrs. Rosette RICHARDSON from district no. 2, Mrs. Anaïs GOMBS from district no. 3, Mrs. Héléna ROGERS wife MINVILLE from district no. 4, Mrs. Aline GUMBS from district no. 5 and Mrs. Marjorie ANTOINE from district no. 6, were honored.
In her welcome speech, President Aline Hanson recalled the central role of the mother in families: “the mother is an emblematic figure in our West Indian societies, because she is a real pillar within the family. The mother often carries the family structure alone and that is a lot of merit.” Through these six exceptional women, the President took the opportunity to wish a happy birthday to all the mothers on the island. She also did not fail to remind us how essential the family structure was to the child's development, with the presence of the mother but also the father to educate and support them towards adulthood.
The 2nd vice- president Ramona Connor, in charge of the Solidarity & Families, also mentioned the importance of the mother in the family unit, while recalling the actions initiated by the Community in the area of the family.
In order to reward them for their distinguished journey, the mothers placed in the spotlight were showered with flowers and praise, to the delight of their family members, proud of the privilege reserved for them.
The President and the Vice-President warmly congratulated the six mothers, by conveying to them the recognition of the community of Saint-Martin for their honorable journey.
