The latest practical information
President Daniel Gibbs is currently in Paris to discuss with the Élysée and Matignon the modalities of reconstruction and the aid that will be granted to Saint Martin. A communication will be sent to you no later than Saturday morning.
Cleaning
- The community is making progress in cleaning the island, 50 local companies are involved in this work. 90% of the axes are cleaned. The community is helped by the RSMA and the French Navy (Bâtiment le Tonnerre) for the clearance. Navy resources may be used for the demolition of irrecoverable public buildings.
- 11 waste disposal sites have been designated in the territory. Dumpsters have been installed at Sandy Ground to allow residents to deposit their waste.
- The objective of the Sustainable center: Return to normal operation of waste and bulky waste collection from October 6.
- The population is asked to separate household waste from bulky items to facilitate collection work.
Economy
- The interministerial delegate in charge of reconstruction, Philippe Gustin , will receive socio-professionals from Saint Martin at the CCISM, Friday September 29 at 10 a.m.
- The CCISM is responsible for supporting businesses: As of 09/27/17: 788 businesses have reported their damage to the CCISM , or €300 million in damage recorded.
- 350 emergency aid files for RSI beneficiaries were sent to Guadeloupe by the CCISM. Beneficiaries who have not taken these steps have until October 2 to do so.
- Tourism: assessments of the different sectors of tourist activity are underway (private/public), the community will be able to give more precise indications within a few weeks (November) on the possibilities of recovery by sector of activity (restaurants - Guest Houses - Hotels - villa rental, shops, etc.).
Back to school
- Back to school is being organized, the Human Center is taking stock currently students who wish to return to Saint-Martin. This census takes place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., until Friday October 29 (former Bord de mer school).
- President Gibbs hoped that the buildings or emergency accommodation which will accommodate the students be secure and equipped as it must be done before starting the school year. The Rectorate will communicate on the start date.
Territorial administration
- Territorial administration has been relaunched. 1st tranche on Monday September 18 / 2nd tranche on Monday September 25 with a gradual return to normal.
- A civil status service takes place every day from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday to Friday.
/>- A Civil Status office will be open exclusively for disaster victims on Saturday: Saturday 30/09 and the first two Saturdays in October, at the community hotel, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This office will help victims wishing to redo their official documents (ID – Passport, various acts.)
- The PSF lists all people in difficulty (accommodation problem, disaster declaration for the uninsured.
- The PDH lists the students for the start of the school year
- The PDD is working on the inventory of public buildings, the center itself has been damaged.
- The Economic center has been affected, the economic unit took over for information and assistance to businesses, in partnership with the CCISM.
Miscellaneous information
- La Poste announces that it will be able to receive and send mail from Monday October 2, as part of an emergency distribution of which it will communicate the modalities.
- EDF announces that 67% of homes are supplied with electricity, they will be 80.% at the end of the week.
- Water production is operational again (UCDEM plant), a backup plant has been installed.
- Générale des Eaux continues the discount water from the distribution network. This work is done gradually to avoid leaks and water losses. To date, 45% of homes are supplied. It will take several more days to regain optimal distribution.
- 13 water distribution points are currently open in the neighborhoods since Sunday, September 24.
- Food distribution continues at the usual 6 points until the end of the week, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Sandy Ground (basketball court), Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium parking lot, Dormoy field in Rambaud, Grand Case basketball court, Chevrise residence in Cul de Sac, Place du Marché Quartier d'Orléans.
From September 30, distribution of water and food will be exclusively reserved for families in difficulty identified by the community's Solidarity and Families Center.
- The traffic ban on St Martin and the curfew on Sint Maarten are still set by mutual agreement at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.
