President GIBBS meets President MACRON at the Elysée

President Daniel GIBBS was received at the Elysée, Tuesday January 30, 2018, for an update with the President of the Republic Emmanuel MACRON, in the presence of the Minister of Overseas Territories, Annick GIRARDIN.

Daniel GIBBS welcomed the significant progress obtained during this meeting with the President of the Republic: “On the requests made during his visit to Saint-Martin, the President of the Republic kept his commitments , I am satisfied with the point that we made together, Tuesday morning."

Among the announcements made, President MACRON committed to intervening with insurers so that the pending Saint-Martin files reimbursements are settled by March 1, 2018. This boost of pressure necessary for the economic recovery of the territory was eagerly awaited by President GIBBS, who had requested this meeting with the Head of State.

President MACRON also indicated that Saint-Martin could benefit from 46 million euros under the Solidarity Fund (FSUE), a credit line which will be directly allocated to our territory. The Head of State also announced the trip to Saint-Martin at the end of February-beginning of March of an interministerial delegation led by the Minister of Overseas Territories. This delegation made up of several ministers will provide an update and reaffirm President MACRON's commitments.

“I am satisfied with the answers given to me, particularly on the Multi-year Plan for #39;investment and catch-up (PPIR) which we are in the process of finalizing, from which we expect a lot in terms of state aid", specifies the President of the community. This Plan will be presented at the next interministerial meeting on reconstruction (RIM), on March 12.

“We have come out of the emergency, but we are not letting up any effort to rebuild Saint- Martin after Irma", commented the President of the Republic at the end of this working session.
