Commemoration of the June 18 Appeal
The Community of Saint-Martin commemorated, Monday June 18, the Appeal of General de Gaulle made on June 18, 1940 from London to urge the French to resist the Nazi regime. As per protocol, the President of the Community, Mr Daniel Gibbs and the Prefect Mrs Anne Laubies laid a wreath of flowers in front of the war memorial in memory of this heroic act; the secretary of the Veterans Association, Mr. Philibert Boussat, was then invited to read the General's message and lay a wreath of flowers in tribute. Prefect Anne Laubies read the message from the Secretary of State to the Minister of the Armed Forces. The president of the association of the National Order of Merit, Mrs. Rosie Nicolas, was also invited to lay a wreath of flowers.
This commemorative ceremony was an opportunity to decorate three officers of the Border police, brigadiers Sylvain Lebon and Gary Auroque and peacekeeper Alain Boucaud, who were decorated by the prefect with the medal of honor of the national police.
