The Community invests 1.6 million euros in the complete rehabilitation of the Sandy-Ground bridge
After having financed several expensive emergency repairs (in 2017 and 2019) on the Sandy Ground movable bridge, damaged by Hurricane Irma, the Community of Saint-Martin decided to finance a complete renovation of the structure , including all of its metal framework and equipment. President Daniel Gibbs, in fact, wanted this work to be carried out once and for all to allow optimal operation of the bridge for the services of users.
In order to carry out this useful work public and to secure this intervention, the authorities will be obliged to immobilize the bridge during several periods of work.
The first phase of work, which consists of renovating the electrical and hydraulic installations, will begin on Monday, September 9, 2019, ending on Sunday, December 15, 2019. Only maritime traffic for large boats will be interrupted during this period, between the Simpson Bay lagoon and the sea. Users are invited to use the maritime passages located in the Dutch part, during the work period.
The bridge will once again be open to maritime traffic, from Monday December 16, 2019. A second phase of work will take place in the second quarter of 2020. In total , six months of work in several phases will be necessary as part of this public contract, for a total amount invested by the community of €1.6 million.

The first phase of work is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 9, 2019 and end on Sunday, December 15, 2019. Work will include electrical renovations and installation of the hydraulic system.

Marine traffic for large boats only will be interrupted between Simpson Bay lagoon and the sea. Users are encouraged to use the Dutch-side sea passageway during this work period.
The bridge will re-open to full marine use as of Monday, December 16, 2019. A second phase of work will take place mid 2020.
The Collectivite is investing €1.6 million. It will take a total of six months of work in several phases to complete the framework of this public contract.
