The community of Saint-Martin reminds that it is strictly prohibited to collect sea sand on the beaches within the jurisdiction of the community for private purposes. The beaches will be rehabilitated and the sand there must be preserved. The community also points out that the reconstruction of housing using sea sand is particularly risky and dangerous, with sea sand greatly weakening buildings; It is also prohibited to collect sand deposited by the sea inland following the passage of the cyclone.
Thus, anyone caught collecting sea sand from beaches or public spaces will be arrested and verbalized. The Territorial Police are responsible for surveillance.

Collecting sand on beaches is strictly forbidden

The Collectivité of Saint-Martin would like to remind the general public that collecting beach sand for private purposes, is strictly forbidden. Beaches will be rehabilitated and the sand found there must be preserved. It is also forbidden to collect the sand that was deposited by the sea inland following the passing of the hurricane.
By way of reminder, the use of sea sand for housing constructions is particularly risky; it increases chances of building collapse.
Hence, persons caught in the act of sand extraction, will be arrested and held accountable for their actions. Territorial police officers will be performing beach patrols.
